Today, I had a boy with me in my class. I got to lead the pony around with the little boy on the back on of the horse.

I got to ride bareback on the pony and it wasn't listening very good. I tried to make it obey, but it wouldn't. So, the teacher helped me lead the horse. If it pushes the person, the person pushes the horse around where he or she wants it to go. It was better to lead Shadow because he was obeying.

I got to use the hoof pick. The hoof pick that I used had a little silver round thing and it scrapes off most of the dirt from the hoof. Then there was a little brush on it and it also helps the hoof get clean. It was hard to lift up the horses foot. I had to use both hands to pick it up, but it was heavy.

There is something in the hoof called a frog. It is long and Buckey's frog was coming off a little.

What Happened Today at Horse Lessons

Today I got to work with a new horse named Shadow. Shadow is black and big and shiny.

I learned how to lead a horse. You hold a bow-like hold and with your right hand you hold the rope and point your pointer fingers the way you want to go and look straight with your chin up a little. Then you click and say "walk on". It works. The horse walks. You say "wow" and the horse stops.

I got to ride the horse but it was a bareback ride. When you ride bareback you have to hold on to the end of the mane. When you ride you have to sit back and when you want to go you kiss and click your tongue and with your legs you give it a hug. It works. It walks. You have to sit on pockets sitting back straight up. You go "wow" when you want to stop. To get off the horse, you hold on to the mane in the same place and swing your left leg over the horses back.

I groomed Shadow just like I did with Mighty. Shadow is really big so I couldn't brush on top of Shadow's back.

My Favorite Horse Lesson

This horse is really white. Its name is Mighty. I will learn to take care of a horse with Mighty.

I learned how to back away from a horse. When you back away from a horse, you put both hands or one hand and a brush on the horses side, then back away. You have to back away from a horse this way because the horse can kick.

I also learned how to brush a horse with a few different brushes. One of the brushes takes dirt off the body and helps scratch the horse sometimes. The next brush releases the dirt off the horses body and hair falls off. There is a comb for the horses mane. It brushes the tangles out of its mane. I also learned about the hoof pick. It is used for taking dirt, rocks and mud off of the horses feet.

I Love Frogs

These frogs just hatched out of their eggs. We fed them yesterday and we got them on Wednesday.
